CPR AT INDIANA STATE HOUSE

Hey - welcome to my first blog post! I want to start by flirting with what's going on at the Indiana State House according to our local public radio station. The legislature is in Session and debating several very hot topics, including same-sex marriage. People are rightly very worked up about this issue.

So it made me shake my head when the news report said that today they are also offering "CPR Classes" at the State House. It's certainly a good idea. The State House might very well presently have an unusual number of  life saving opportunities...

As for flirting with same-sex marriage (this could be tricky) I think the legislature should vote to keep the issue just in the legislature and keep it away from a constitutional amendment referendum in the Fall. First the people of Indiana all ready have their "say" on this through their Representatives. And, secondly such a referendum would likely mean huge and ugly campaigns that would waste money that could be used in so, so many better ways; in ways that directly affect a lot more people. Come on people; let's live and let live, and let people flirt with and marry whomever they want!

  1. Are you sure you want this "Come on people; let's live and let live, and let people flirt with and marry whomever they want!"? Are you suggesting the government has no interest in regulating marriage?

Perhaps brother and sister, son and mother, cousins, etc should be able to marry so they too can get the married filing jointly tax deductions and shared health insurance benefits.

Only people not directly affect by such a campaign would call the campaign a waste of money. I think that if the campaign was about the regulation of time wasting bloggers such as yourself, you may have a different opinion of the campaign.

    1. I agree the wording in the sentence you quoted could have been more concise. However, I think most people will interpret it in its context: the current same-sex marriage debate in the Indiana legislature.

I am not suggesting the government has no interest in regulating marriage. But as to the cases of incest you list, they are completely irrelevant to this issue of same-sex marriage. I see them as merely a fogging technique distracting from the relevant facts.

I am disappointed that you resorted to character assassination. But, you and all readers are entitled to their opinions. I and others, however do not believe I am a "time wasting blogger." Thanks for your comment. R.
